Do you think Wyclef Jean should be allowed to run for president in Haiti?
News broke over the weekend that Fugees' philanthropist and rap machine, Wyclef Jean, was shot while traveling through Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Wyclef told press that while sitting in a car, gunfire broke out and before he knew it, he was covered in blood. Luckily, the Haitian wannabe-prez was only shot in the hand.

Jean's publicist assured: "He’s fine now. It happened late yesterday night and he was released after a couple hours.”

So far, it is unclear as the whether or not Wyclef was the intended target. Eek!

Even though he was not elected as President of Haiti, should Wyclef continue a career in politics?
After doing his darndest to become the President of Haiti, despite that silly billy rule about living in Haiti 5 years before running for office, Wyclef Jean has hit his limit--politically and physically. Holy cow!

Today, the ex-Fugee, relief activist and singer/songwriter was rushed to an undisclosed hospital after suffering extreme exhaustion following his "grueling" run for presidency.

The 37-year-old was told that sure "Hips Don't Lie" but that his adrenaline and excitement over a political career in the Caribbean was "killing him softly" after 8 weeks of intense travel and action.

After appealing for a chance to run for president, Wyclef was DENIED and now plans to "take it easy" so he can be in tip-top to help the survivors of Haiti.

Wyclef Jean Out of Presidency Race

Do you think singer/songwriter Wyclef Jean would make a good president of Haiti?
Although I would have bet some "first-borns" that this ish was never going to happen, some of your were down right sure (and supportive) of Wyclef Jean becoming the President of Haiti.

Hip-hop legend and singer/songwriter Wyclef has officially been ruled ineligible to run for president of Haiti. The Fugees star has received both international support and a handful of death threats following his hopes to replace the current prez, Rene Preval.

Turns out that in order to run for the position, all candidates must have lived in Haiti for 5 YEARS prior to the elections. Unfortunately, Wy left Haiti when he was five and was raised in the states.

Maybe it's for the best?! What do you guys think?

Do you think Wyclef Jean should run for President of Haiti?
This is not a joke. I repeat: this is not a joke. Former Fugee Wyclef Jean is in fact running for President of Haiti.

After spearheading the relief effort and helping raise nearly $61 million, the singer told the New York Times "You can either live trying to do something or die having done nothing." He continues that he does not want to be remembered as "somebody who, after the devastation of the country that he claimed he loved so much, just kept singing more songs."

Apparently, 37 year old Jean has heard the calling. He says "The youth, in their mind if I don't come and put a perspective to things, they feel there's no future for the country, and I have to agree with them."

More power to you...I guess!

Do you think Wyclef Jean should run for President of Haiti?
Say what? Say what? After helping Haiti post-earthquake, singer/songwriter and Haitian, Wyclef Jean has decided to run for president? Can he do that?

Wyclef has stated that he won't "sing forever" and although his Yele Foundation released the following statement, Canadian newspaper LaDroit claims he's fully planning on running:

"Wyclef's commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward. At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president. If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately."

Do you like Wyclef Jean's music?
The rock and roller with the biggest heart, Wyclef Jean, not only led Hollywood into a world of giving and volunteering, but he stood as the biggest advocate for his country of Haiti after devastating earthquakes demolished it earlier this year!

Just this week Wyclef took three young Haitian amputees on mega shopping sprees where the three kids, 17-year-old Margarette and Chantal and 8-year-old Farah, were given $1,000 to spend to their heart's content at K-Mart! Wyclef said:

"When you come from a country where you make $1 a day, giving them $1,000 is like giving them $10,000. They need to know there are people like them and they're normal. Today they're not thinking, 'I don't have a leg.' They're just being kids and they're happy."

Such an amazing man that Wyclef!

Do you think Wyclef Jean deserves a Nobel Prize for his work to help Haiti after the earthquake?
This Friday, singer/songwriter Wyclef Jean will be honored with the "Vanguard Award for Work in Racial and Social Issues" from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for his fund raising efforts to rebuild Haiti after the devastating January earthquake.

For his tireless efforts in the past month and a half, the incredible musician has been awarded "Artist of the Year" prize by Harvard University. He deserves it! The work he's done has helped the his home country incredibly and although there is a lot of work that remains, Haiti would not be advancing at the rate it is today without Wyclef.

Wyclef Jean Breaks Down About Yele Foundation Controversey

January 19, 2010 | 06:30 AM PST

This afternoon, teary Wyclef Jean spoke at an international press conference held to discuss the current status of the disaster in Haiti and to clear-up misunderstandings surrounding Wyclef's charities and their history of mistakes. He promised that these past discrepancies have since been resolved:

"Did I ever use Yéle money for personal gain? Absolutely not." Continuing: "Yéle's books are open and transparent and we have been given a clean bill of health by an external auditor, every year since we started."

This is a terrible time for Wyclef and his Yele Foundation is doing the best they can to properly support the demand!
  • I think it's important to remember that if you aren't comfortable with donating to Wyclef Jean's Yele Foundation on't be turned-off to helping! There are lots of places you can donate to. A great place to start is the American Red Cross!
