After spearheading the relief effort and helping raise nearly $61 million, the singer told the New York Times "You can either live trying to do something or die having done nothing." He continues that he does not want to be remembered as "somebody who, after the devastation of the country that he claimed he loved so much, just kept singing more songs."
Apparently, 37 year old Jean has heard the calling. He says "The youth, in their mind if I don't come and put a perspective to things, they feel there's no future for the country, and I have to agree with them."
Wyclef has stated that he won't "sing forever" and although his Yele Foundation released the following statement, Canadian newspaper LaDroit claims he's fully planning on running:
"Wyclef's commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward. At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president. If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately."

Just this week Wyclef took three young Haitian amputees on mega shopping sprees where the three kids, 17-year-old Margarette and Chantal and 8-year-old Farah, were given $1,000 to spend to their heart's content at K-Mart! Wyclef said:
"When you come from a country where you make $1 a day, giving them $1,000 is like giving them $10,000. They need to know there are people like them and they're normal. Today they're not thinking, 'I don't have a leg.' They're just being kids and they're happy."
For his tireless efforts in the past month and a half, the incredible musician has been awarded "Artist of the Year" prize by Harvard University. He deserves it! The work he's done has helped the his home country incredibly and although there is a lot of work that remains, Haiti would not be advancing at the rate it is today without Wyclef.

"Did I ever use Yéle money for personal gain? Absolutely not." Continuing: "Yéle's books are open and transparent and we have been given a clean bill of health by an external auditor, every year since we started."
This is a terrible time for Wyclef and his Yele Foundation is doing the best they can to properly support the demand!
- I think it's important to remember that if you aren't comfortable with donating to Wyclef Jean's Yele Foundation on't be turned-off to helping! There are lots of places you can donate to. A great place to start is the American Red Cross!
