Barbara Walters Retiring In 2014

May 13, 2013 | 03:01 PM PDT

Filed under: Barbara Walters, NEWS, Politics, New TV, The View, ABC

WT411 called this one back in March: Barbara Walters is going to retire in 2014 after 53 years in the business, 37 of them with ABC. Announcing the news this morning on The View, Walters says, "I am not walking into the sunset. I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain. I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women - and OK, some men too - who will be taking my place."

Barbara's career began in 1974 as an anchor on NBC's Today. She would later become the first female to anchor a network evening newscast. A fascinating woman and an astonishing career.

Job well done, Barbara! Let the victory lap begin!

Playboy playmate and former Hugh Hefner-mate Kendra Wilkinson has never been accused of being the smartest person in the room, so it should come as no surprise that the reality star signed up for a diving competition but has a fear of heights. ABC's Celebrity Diving Splash pits so-called celebs against one another in a diving contest, aka Diving with the Stars.

This week's challenge was to dive off a 23-foot platform, but for Kendra, that was just too darn high. The Girls Next Door star couldn't muster up enough courage to overcome her fears and decided to quit. Responding to angry Twitter followers Wilkinson tweeted, "Damn I got a lot of hate tonight but ill take it. Big mistake signing up for the show. Sorry I let you down."

Is Barbara Walters the most iconic newswoman of all time?
After 52 years in the business, news legend Barbara Walters is going to retire next year. The iconic 83-year-young newswoman will leave her position with The View and ABC News according to several sources. The resignation will reportedly take place in May of 2014.

Barbara's
career started as a news anchor on NBC's Today in 1974. Among her never-ending list of achievements, near the top has to be her accomplishment of being the first female to anchor a network evening newscast.

She'll certainly be missed, but since she'll still be gracing our small screens for the next year, we have plenty of time to say goodbye.

Do you think CBS will try to hire Jay Leno when David Letterman retires?
Jay Leno loves working. Like he seriously just can't get enough. With reports saying Jimmy Fallon will take over NBC's Tonight Show in 2014, the word is that Jay might move to FOX News.

According to the NY Post (Which is owned by News Corp., the same company which owns FOX), executives are considering offering Jay the chance to launch their first-ever late-night show and start it at 11 o'clock, a half-hour earlier than NBC, ABC and CBS' late-night shows.

Leno
remains under contract with NBC through May of 2014, so don't expect an announcement anytime soon, but knowing Jay he won't ride off into the sunset next year.

Do you think Tina Fey would actually consider joining "The View"?
It's been a long, sometimes tedious, sometimes fun road for Joy Behar on The View. After joining the show 16 years ago with Barbara Walters, the newswoman / comedian has announced she's leaving the program. ABC said in a statement, "Joy Behar has been instrumental in the success of The View from the very beginning. We wish her all the best in this next chapter, and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season." Did you know Behar is 70?! Whether you like her or not, gotta admit she looks pretty darn good for that age!

Who should replace Joy? Sarah Silverman, Roseanne, Tina Fey… any other ideas??

Will "The Tonight Show" have better ratings with Fallon than Leno?

Here we go again… after the Jay Leno / Conan O'Brien debacle in 2009, it looks like NBC is ready to go round two, this time with Jimmy Fallon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network is currently working on a Leno exit plan for 2014 and have Fallon take over The Tonight Show reign.

According to sources, NBC is concerned that it will lose its younger audience due to ABC moving Jimmy Kimmel to 11:35. If that younger crowd starts watching Kimmel instead of waiting for Fallon an hour later, it might be tough for Jimmy to ever recoup that demographic. There's also a concern that David Letterman will soon retire and be replaced by Conan, opening up an unwanted ugly war. Ya gotta believe Conan's still out for revenge on NBC.

Let the drama begin!

After 83 years of happy living, Barbara Walters has finally contracted the chickenpox virus. Last week the legendary newswoman took a nasty fall and was recovering in a hospital, but after a fever popped up doctors realized Barbara had also been dealt chickenpox! And the only prescription isn't more cowbell, but antibiotics!

Typically something young kids get, chickenpox is a highly contagious but non-threatening infection. However, chickenpox in adults is a bit more serious, but doctors assure us Walters will make a full recovery!

Best wishes, Barbara! And NO ITCHING!
